You need to reach a certain amount of progress in the main murder case before a certain in-game day. The Deserter had been there all along, separate but close-by, utterly disinterested in and detached from the murder investigation we’ve been conducting. Time is a major factor in the game, however. When we finally find him, it's little more than an accident, the culmination of neither an epic journey nor a thrilling manhunt. Even the game itself doesn't refer to him by name. You're a detective with a unique skill system at your disposal and a whole city block to carve your path across and now you can uncover even more. Most prominently in that he mentions to previously have been an investor in the Fortress Accident game development studio, who are ZA/UMs self-deprecating stand-in. Apart from the children playing in the decrepit fishing village, no one in the entire game ever mentions or even alludes to the Deserter’s existence. No Celebrities Were Harmed: It is subtle, but there are several hints that he is at least partially based on the Estonian businessman Margus Linnamäe, the guy who was Disco Elysiums biggest corporate sponsor. Or rather: he’s the object of a quest only insofar as we’re looking for a murderer, who – according to detective genre tradition – we expect to find among the cast of characters already known to us. And most importantly of all: he never was the object of a quest. Recent Reviews: Very Positive (11) (466) Release Date: Oct 8, 2020.
Use timing mechanics to power your spells and block attacks, explore the twisted halls of a vast magic school, fight challenging monsters and bosses, and uncover dark secrets never meant to be found. He is a bitter, confused and pathetic old man, forgotten long ago and left behind by the times. A turn-based tactical RPG about a group of troublesome magic students. He is not a legendary figure people tell stories about. He is not a wise man bestowing his wisdom on the quester. But the Deserter is also nothing like Utnapishtim.
